Though the DeLand, Fla., home-base of Mystic Powerboats is less than 300 miles from Miami, the custom high-performance center console and catamaran builder has not exhibited inside or outside the Miami International Boat Show convention center venue for 10 years. The certain expense was too high to justify the potential return, so company owner and founder John Cosker abandoned the South Beach-based event and never looked back.

Mystic will have a C4000 catamaran at Grove Harbour for by-appointment demos.
When the Miami affair moved to the Miami Marine Stadium location on Virginia Key in 2016, Mystic returned because Cosker and Greg Weber, his longtime national sales manager, were able to offer demo rides for would be buyers. Plus, at the end of a long boat-show day, they didn’t have to battle their way through South Florida traffic to return to wherever they were staying. They just hopped in one of their demo boats and enjoyed “the ride home” on Biscayne Bay.
Come February 11-13, Mystic Powerboats will be back for boat-show week again, but not in Miami. Mystic is one of several companies that will set up shop at Grove Harbour in Coconut Grove as part of the by-appointment-only Mercury Racing Demo Experience. Cosker and Weber will have a C4000 catamaran at the Grove Harbour docks.
It will be the third time the company has participated in the event.
“What I like about the Grove Harbour setup is that it isn’t a static display,” Cosker explained. “People who make appointments for demos with us can get out and see how the boat runs. It reminds me of when we were at Miami Marine Stadium.”
